The Shadow's Newspaper Adventures

The following is a descriptive list of The Shadow's fourteen newspaper comic strip adventures. That's all the storylines that were done in the strips' two-year life. In fact, the last storyline was never completed.

Since most of his adventures were not titled, I have taken the liberty of using the titles listed in J. Randolph Cox' book Man of Magic and Mystery: A Guide to the Work of Walter B. Gibson published in 1988. Next to The Duende History of The Shadow Magazine (by Will Murray: 1980) and The Shadow Scrapbook (by Walter B. Gibson: 1979), "Mystery" is probably the most complete and comprehensive reference book available.

For those of you who'd like to see and read one of the strips online, please visit The Shadow Magazine website. The link will take you directly to an example of the strip.
Also, you can try to get copies of Eternity Comics which reprinted the adventures in 1988 and 1989 under the title of "Crime Classics." Supposedly all the strips were done (which would've taken 18 issues), but I've only been able to confirm that about 13 issues were done. As I found out more, I'll update this section.

Titles in italics are those given by Cox (see above).

This is the last newspaper comic strip adventure and the storyline was never completed

The ETERNITY Reprints: 1988 - 1989

In the "Crime Classics" issues that I have, each one only has six weeks worth of adventures. This means that the newspaper adventures 'overlapped' CC issues -- one storyline would end, and on the next page, the next one begins.
This seems a little 'weird' to me, but given that Eternity comic issues had a set number of pages, it was the only logical way to reprint the strips.

And now, from The Shadow's files comes . . .

The Mystery of the Sealed Box {beginning only}
Scanned & cropped from "Crime Classics" #1 July 1988.
